STEM

We aspire to be the leading advocate in advancing rights and opportunities for young Cameroonians by employing a unique model to empower young people from low-income communities to discover their strengths and thrive. SODEI advocates and advances the rights of young women and girls in who are especially vulnerable to gendered cultural norms which means they often lack access to education and economic opportunity. When girls and women are denied the right to education, it’s children, households, communities and economies that suffer. We are inspired by: SDG 4 — the education goal and targets

Goal 4: ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all:

  • target 4.3: by 2030, ensure equal access for all women and men to affordable and quality technical, vocational and tertiary education, including university.

Standards for learning, teaching and leading in the digital age

  • Creativity and Innovation
  • Communication and Collaboration
  • Research and Information Fluency
  • Critical Thinking, Problem Solving, and Decision Making
  • Digital Citizenship
  • Technology Operations and Concepts

Objectives

“We want to significantly contribute to achieving SDG target 4.4: by 2030, substantially increase the number of youth and adults who have relevant skills, including technical and vocational skills, for employment, decent jobs and entrepreneurship”

  • Promote quality education and training programmes and projects developed by young Cameroonians by:
    • lobbying and influencing locally as well as internationally to scale the successfully tested models concerning mentorship and scholarships; youth empowerment; technical, industrial, vocational education and training (TIVET); and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM).
  • Establish knowledge on IT and motivate young people towards tech
  • Insight on possible tech career orientation
  • Merging E-commerce and one’s entrepreneurial vision.
  • To be self-employed and create employment opportunities for others
  • Inspire learners, to bring up innovative ideas to serve as solutions for existing societal problems.
  • Secure and utilize funding sources to secure needed educational technology resources

Schools for Tech

“Supporting a vision of achievement and success for all”.

Goal: Increase student proficiency in using technology to complete inquiries (plan and question, gather and make sense, produce to show understanding, communicate and reflect)

Run ‘tech days in schools’ to increase student participation in authentic technology infused projects using available resources, based on 21st Century themes.

Help maximize the appropriate integration of technology resources in the teaching-learning process (including privately-owned devices where allowed) within all content areas based on relevant research, providing equal access to all students.

Employ instructional methodologies integrating technology resources in the classroom to achieve curriculum and instructional objectives in all content areas, to include Literacy with ICT.

Enhance all curricular areas, using technology as a vehicle to integrate Digital Citizenship into classroom activities.

Tech Entrepreneurs

“Supporting young Cameroonians through experiential STEM education, leadership, and entrepreneurship training”.

Goal: Provide opportunities to acquire technical, vocational and entrepreneurship skills traditionally reserved for men and incorporate entrepreneurship training to female graduates who cannot enter the formal employment sector.

LESPLAY Tech

“Employing creative methods and play to engage children and young people”.

Goal: To give young people the freedom and confidence to be themselves, to have fun with their peers and to increase the IT-based opportunities for young people with additional needs in the local community.

Focus on young women and girls

SODEI inspires and engages young women and girls in the Cameroonian society to exploit their resources and reach their highest potential.

Girls who code Cameroon (GwCC) after school

“Training the bold and building sisterhood”

Goal: To become the largest and most robust out-of-school program of its type in Cameroon reaching more girls and schools with intensive, free-of-cost and high-quality STEM education.

After School Club

  • Sisterhood: An inclusive, supportive and safe environment of peers and role models where young Cameroonian women learn to see themselves as computer scientists.
  • Code: Learn the basis of all the programming languages – concepts of loops, variables, conditionals and functions.
  • Impact: Be a change-maker and work in dynamic teams to complete a computer science impact project that solves a real-world problem in your community.

Mentorship

The mentorship component is designed to support young tech enthusiasts by building up their confidence and self-esteem and gradually introducing them to the world of professionalism.
