Our mission is to inspire, engage and empower children and young persons in Cameroon by increasing their chances to succeed through education. We do this through mentorship, skills training, education support, research, and advocacy to promote equitable access to quality education.

Become a volunteer to help our work. You can volunteer full time, part time or online, depending on your individual circumstances. We need many hands-on people on board to be able to reach out to as many people as possible. A salesman can volunteer to sell one of our fundraising products, a web developer can volunteer to develop or maintain or web page, a community organiser/social worker can work with our affected communities etc. Some people have volunteered to assist us online in the past.

Meet Our Team
SODEI brings together volunteers and staff from various backgrounds. Our staff and researchers work globally to produce strategies that generate real change on the ground.
A passionate child rights advocate and researcher, a social entrepreneur and community development enthusiast with over a decade of experience. Driven by a profound commitment to advancing the rights and well-being of children, especially those marginalized, making tangible impact through research, advocacy, and youth empowerment efforts.
Currently holds the position of Doctoral Research Fellow in Law at Norway’s Arctic University, where his research centers on indigenous children and their fundamental right to a promising future. His academic pursuits and professional journey reflect his commitment to creating a better world for children and young people.
Primary research areas of focus include the rights of indigenous children, agency and the meaningful participation of young people, children’s rights and the environment, youth in climate action. His research interests extend to the examination of global South versus global North perspectives on the rights of children and youth, offering valuable insights into the disparities and commonalities that exist across regions.
Began his career as a human rights lawyer, gaining invaluable experience before pursuing advanced studies abroad. His impressive background extends to international development and humanitarian work, including roles with esteemed organizations like the United Nations and the International Institute for Humanitarian Law.
Within the non-profit sector, he has generously contributed his time and expertise to numerous local grassroots organizations in Cameroon. His dedication culminated in the establishment of impactful initiatives such as Contra Nocendi and SODEI.
With more than five years of leadership experience and over a decade of dedicated activism, Gilbert envisions a world where children and young people are provided with quality education in a safe and nurturing environment. His goal is to empower them, giving them a voice to actively participate in decisions that shape their world.

Rosaline Awutarh Bates Anoma
Rosaline heads SODEI’s programmes team with the responsibility for designing programmes and activities to suit the needs of young persons in Cameroon. She is passionate about and dedicated to contributing to sustainable development.
Rosaline through her work strives to be part of processes that enable youths to find their voices and participate in local governance and responsible decision-making for them personally, within their homes, and their communities.
As a professional with a sound educational background in law and human rights, and extensive experience in human rights advocacy, Rosaline has since 2018 worked with SODEI to support the organization’s goals and objectives through various projects and activities. She works with her team to model programmes to suit the needs of young persons in areas such as mentorship, education, information technology and gender equality.
She is currently a PhD Candidate at the Friedrich Alexander University of Erlangen-Nuremberg studying Human Rights Law with a focus on gender-based violence in Cameroon.
Janelle Crockett
Janelle is as passionate about data analysis as she is about supporting the local, national, and global community through work with nonprofit organizations. Janelle has a Bachelor’s Degree in Economics and two Master’s Degrees: one in Nonprofit Management and the other in Philanthropic Studies.
She has more than 10 years of experience in nonprofit management and data analytics, primarily working with fundraising departments in arts and youth education organizations. Most comfortable behind the scenes, she shines in aiding front-line nonprofit workers by providing them with the necessary analysis and information to present data-based cases to expand and enhance the organization’s causes.
Janelle strongly believes in the value of education throughout all stages of life and is excited to support SODEI’s research goals.
Amara Heyland-Morrin
Amara has over seven years’ experience in the non-profit sector working across various organizations, specializing in campaigns and organizational development and innovation. She is responsible for managing SODEI’s communications portfolio and expanding its public reach, as well as liaising on issues relating to campaigning and advocacy work.
She is deeply passionate about education and about advancing equal opportunities for all, and her previous work has focused on community engagement and stakeholder management in the field of education provision in challenging environments.
Amara is a recent graduate of the University of Cambridge, where she read English and is interested in combining innovative approaches to international development initiatives with her background in academia and written communication.
She is also experienced in the field of creative arts and applied creative arts practice, having worked extensively in making and directing theatre both for entertainment and for social impact, and she is passionate about creating alternative learning opportunities for children of all backgrounds and abilities comprising creative, responsive approaches to education.
As such, Amara is proud to be representing an organization that champions the potential of children and young people to manifest change. Amara lives in the UK and is pursuing her master’s degree as well as working for SODEI.
